On Friday 10th October, the BlueFit Foundation Charity Golf Day brought together local businesses, community groups, and supporters at Glen Waverley Sports Hub in Melbourne for a fun, impact driven event.
The day featured an 18-hole Ambrose format, ideal for all skill levels and kicked off with a light lunch before a shotgun start. The event wrapped up with dinner and presentation, providing a fantastic opportunity for networking and raising vital funds to support inclusive local initiatives.
The success of the day reflects the community’s strong support for the Foundation’s mission of removing barriers to participation in sport and recreation.
Akua’s Pathway to Employment at Melton Waves
The BlueFit Foundation, in partnership with Leisure Employment Australia (LEA), supported a student from Melton Secondary College obtain a School-Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) opportunity at Melton Waves Leisure Centre in Victoria.
Akua, a Year 10 student originally from Sudan, identified an interest in pursuing a career as a Pool Lifeguard and Swim Instructor. However, as a beginner swimmer and without access to swimming lessons, Akua required targeted support to develop the necessary aquatic skills and confidence.
Through collaboration between LEA and the BlueFit Foundation, funding was provided for Akua’s swimming lessons. With consistent training and mentoring, Akua achieved the ability to swim 100 metres with sound technique, meeting the prerequisite for aquatic employment pathways.
Following this progress, Akua successfully completed his SBAT interview and will commence a traineeship at Melton Waves. He will continue to complete his secondary education while undertaking this SBAT, allowing him to balance school and work as he builds a foundation for his future career. This initiative demonstrates the effectiveness of cross sector partnerships in creating inclusive employment pathways and addressing barriers to participation for young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
This outcome reflects the shared commitment of the BlueFit Group, LEA, and Council to fostering equitable access to recreation, workforce development opportunities, and community wellbeing.
