The majority of the elements of a good golf shot happen before you even swing the club. To give yourself the best chance at success, make sure you are incorporating these essential steps into your pre-swing routine.
- Stand behind the ball and pick your target (keep in mind it’s not always the flag)
- Visualise and commit to an ideal ball flight (left to right / right to left / straight / high or low)
- Have one practice swing (focus on rhythm, balance and your ball flight selected in step 2
- Pick an immediate target (this is a spot on the ground approximately 2 feet in front of your ball on your target line)
- Set up aiming club-face at your immediate target
- Focus on slightly closed stance and ball position back for draw shots and slightly open stance with ball position forward for fade shots
- Create good posture with core muscles engaged and relaxed upper body (shoulders, arms, wrists)
- Final thoughts before commencing swing should be on target and ball flight
