Putting – Ways to sink more putts
In a round of golf, the number of putts you make can be anywhere from 30 to 45 percent of your score, so it makes sense to practice this part of the game the most. If you can improve your putting by 5-10 percent you will see big gains in your scoring.
See below a few basic tips and drills that can help you gain results. Most golf balls now have alignment aids on them so either using a straight line for aiming your preferred way – see example image
- Select a 10-foot (3m putt) from the hole
- Read It – as a rule, 10 ft (3m) behind the ball is your best read for break.
- Aim It – Look at a point (spot) where you will need to aim the putter face to and treat it as a straight putt regardless if there is any break.
- Drill – Place 2 tees approx putter width apart 1 meter away from the ball. Aim is to roll it through the gate and give you instant feedback on your face control and alignment.
- Roll It – Now roll the ball on the line chosen with full commitment.
Additional Drill – Place 3 tees in a half circle from the back of the cup 2 tees ½ metre either side and a tee 1m behind the hole. You will get instant feedback on your read and speed control.
The more quality practice the better your results will be. All the best and look forward to hearing about those putts dropping!
